Hebrews 4:14-5:10

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens—Jesus the Son of God—let us hold fast to our confession. Hebrews 4:14

In our text this week, Jesus is described as a great high priest. Dealing with a priest is not something that we normally encounter, in part because of all that Jesus accomplished as our high priest. These words remind us that Jesus ministered to us in our greatest need to satisfy the law's requirement to deal with sin. If sin could not be dealt with, then humanity would have no way to relate to God since our sin would remain an obstacle. However, we have a great high priest who has worked on our behalf. The conclusion is that we are able to hold fast or persevere in our confession of faith.  We owe Jesus our very lives and so our entire lives can be spent on him.
