Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43

Master, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Then where did the weeds come from? Matthew 13:27

Jesus tells this parable in a series that is designed to highlight the dynamics of the kingdom of God. In this case, we are provided with a detailed explanation about what each of the images represent (Matthew 12:37-43).  Jesus is trying to impress upon his disciples that evil exists in the world, but also, that the ones who are righteous (the good seed in the world that are the followers of Jesus Christ) have a role to fulfil in the midst of this wicked company. Unfortunately, those who serve God seem eager to remove the evil without considering the effect on others who are righteous around them. Jesus is trying to encourage his followers to remain faithful, yet avoid unnecessary judgment, in the world until he returns in the end.
