Ah, summer - most people’s favourite season of the year. I know there are a few who really prefer winter; don’t worry. It will come again in due time.

Last summer we spent time in the Book of Psalms, and it was a good time indeed. So this summer we will be exploring Book 2, which are Psalms 42-72. We have 10 weekends including the September Long Weekend, so that allows us to focus on 10 Psalms.

We will spend time this weekend with Psalms 42 and 43, which are actually well connected, as you will see. The writer uses words like longing, thirst, discouraged and downcast. These words can often be felt in our lives as we walk this earth. So let’s explore these Psalms together so that we can “put our hope in God,” no matter what is happening in our personal and family lives, and in the world.

Weekly Reflection:

  1. Read Psalms 42-43:
    • In your Bible, circle all the words of emotion and feeling
    • In your Bible, underline or highlight one or two special verses
  2. Choose one verse to memorize.
  3. What is one thing that is discouraging you? Write and pray about this; asking God to show you how to have hope in the midst of the discouragement.
  4. Why can God be trusted in these times?
