Christians are children of God. With God as their Heavenly Father, Christians are brothers and sisters in a great big family. God’s desire is that His children conduct themselves properly in their relationships with each other in the family. The Scriptures use “one another” statements to help believers know how to treat each other. In the first segments of the series, “be patient with one another”, “forgive one another”, and “encourage one another” have already been mentioned. The focus this week will be on the most frequently used “one another” statement which is “love one another.” The Apostle John is often referred to as the “apostle of love” and he uses the phrase “love one another” six times in two chapters of his first letter (1 John 3:11, 14, 23; 4:7, 11, 12). Even though John isn’t referring to romantic love, love is an appropriate topic to explore on this Valentine’s weekend.
