Opportunities exist in Children’s Ministry, Tech, Ushers, Greeters, and more. Talk to our ministry leaders today to see how your Life Group can serve together.

Encouragement: Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” (John 14:6) continued…

Many years ago, I was a youth leader in a small rural church in southern Manitoba. A man, who was quite worked up, approached me to speak his mind about the evil music young people were listening to. With great conviction, he wagged his bony index finger at my chest and said, “I’m a tellin’ a you…”! I was impressed by his passion but less convinced about accepting all he had to say. Some use passion to convince and persuade. Others use great sounding arguments. Still others, threaten harm and use muscle to enforce belief. But there is nothing that can compare to the bold, powerful, gentle confidence of a truthful word spoken. And that is what Jesus did over and over and over again.

John writes in his gospel, “We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (1:14) “For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (1:17)

Here is just a small sampling of truthful statements that Jesus shared, and John recorded. Take your time to read them. You might be tempted to rush through it. Don’t. These words have context to them. The hot sun. The crowd pressing in. Clouds of dust. Sheep in your way. Running to find shelter from the rain. Oil lamps. The smell of cooking on an open fire. Stopping to buy figs…

Jesus said,
… to Nathaniel, “I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” (1:51)
…to Nicodemus, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” (3:3);
… to the Jews, “I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.” (5:24)
…to the disciples, “I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.” (6:26,27)
…to the Pharisees, “I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep.” (10:1,2)
..to Philip and Andrew, “I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed.” (12:24)
… to the disciples, “I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.” (13:16)
…to Peter, “I tell you the truth, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” (13:38)
… to Philip, “I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing.” (14:23)
… to the disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go I will send him to you.” (16:7,8)
… to the disciples “I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask for in my name.” (16;23)

Truth from the Saviour, words we can trust. A lamp for our feet, believing we must.

Grace and truth to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.
