Encouragement: Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” (John 14:6) continued…  At very busy airports with different terminals and many gates, you might gaze out the window and see a very odd sight. A huge Boeing 787 Dreamliner slowly, carefully, following behind a comparatively wee little vehicle. Shouldn’t the bigger jet have its way out there?  Does it really have to tag along behind this special little truck? With its caution lights flashing and a very special sign on the back, “follow me”, the flight crew trusts the pilot vehicle to get them to where they need to go.

Jesus invites Peter before the cross and again after His resurrection to “Come, Follow me”- (Matthew 4:19; John 21:19) Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24) The place to be is with and at peace with the Heavenly Father. There is one way there and Jesus offers the invitation, “follow me.” It is a way He has been. It is a way He knows. It is a way that is true. It is the way of life. Taking the first step or the 8,356th step requires faith. Trusting Him to get you to where you long to go.

That is hard enough but there is also something else. There is another call, another voice, another way. Listen to these sharp words from the collection of proverbs of King Solomon and other wise men, “for the lips of an adulteress drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil; but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave. She gives no thought to the way of life; her paths are crooked, but she knows it not.” (Proverbs 5:3-6) This deceiver also calls out, “come this way.”

The journey begins and continues each day with a decision of the heart that moves us on the Way. It is a step of discernment. It is a step of faith and trust… God is faithful and true. Which way will you go? Who will you follow?

Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.
