Encouragement:The greatest among you will be your servant.” Matthew 23:11

Great serve!

What conjures up greatness in your mind? Wow that was great! Did you see that? The colors were absolutely brilliant? How in the world did she ever do that? The way I feel when those words were spoken, has me believing I could do anything. I can hardly believe that they are champs after all these years of waiting. Who do you think is the greatest? The disciples were thinking about it too and they weren’t shy to ask Jesus about it. (Matthew 18:1) James and John’s mom thought it should be them at Jesus side. (20:21)

What does a great person do? Jesus said, they serve. In fact, it is so much a part of them, it is what they are. They are servants. Perhaps they are disguised as a youth worker, mom, business executive, teacher, bank teller, uncle, or young child. But, underneath all that, they are servants. They are the ones who are outward focused. They are the ones quick to respond to the need. They have no title, such as, Director of Servanthood, or President of Servers. They pick up, put away and take care. They are there before the crowd and the last to leave. Their words are few, but their actions are many.

Where does a great serve come from? Jesus said, “Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:4. You see, a great serve comes from humble beginnings. It starts with humility. Pride seeks to elevate oneself above all. Humility submits to the King.

Who is the greatest example of a great serve? It is the One who said these words, “Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:26;

It is our Lord Jesus Christ, “Who being in very nature with God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant…” (Philippians 2:6,7)

God bless you as you continue practicing your serve.

Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.
