Lent is a season of 40 days that runs before Easter and is a time when many Christians prepare their hearts for the remembrance of Jesus’ death and resurrection. This year it starts on March 6 and runs until April 21. During this time, believers will deny themselves certain items or practices that remind them of the sacrifice that Jesus made when he died for us. I know of one man who stops eating dessert during this time. (A great way to shed a few pounds!) It’s not a major sacrifice, but it’s a reminder to him, when he sees others indulging in their sweet treats, that he should be willing to give up certain fleshly enjoyments as an indication of his love for Christ.
We will have a new sermon series during this season of Lent starting this coming Sunday, March 3. It’s called “Our Saviour and Lord” and is a study of the life of Christ based on certain passages in the gospel of John. As we progress through the series we will see how Jesus is presented as the mighty God, the Messiah of the Jews, the Servant of men, and the Saviour of the world. It’s my hope that as we look at various events in the life of Christ, we will gain a deeper understanding of who he is and what he has done for us. Come and discover more about our Saviour and Lord, and let your relationship with him deepen during this Easter season.
