When the Israelites were preparing to enter the Promised Land, God spoke to Joshua and told him that he was to go forward courageously and confidently to take what God had promised to them. He also gave Joshua a key word of advice that was to guide him in all that he did, and that was to follow God’s law that had been delivered to the Israelites through the mouth of Moses. Four times God refers to his word as something to be adhered to so that what Israel does will be successful and prosperous.
The same is true for us today. God’s word was given to reveal to us spiritual truths that we could otherwise never have known. But it was also given to guide us in our daily lives. God created this world with certain principles in place and through his word he reveals to us what those principles are so that we can live good, orderly and successful lives. Over the next few weeks we will look at some of these principles as shown in the book of Proverbs. These are practical words that show us how to relate to others, conduct our business affairs and manage our households. We will call the series “The Practical Wisdom of God”, because that’s what they are: practical principles that reflect the wisdom of God that will enable us to be successful in our daily lives.
